Getting PaperPort to work

Thanks to reviews fromfellow EDTech-ers, I bought Paperport to help
me with my mounting load of paperwork. PaperPort is an amazing
device--when it works. It permits me to quickly scan in hand-written and
typewritten student papers, grade save them on disk, grade them elsewhere,
and save student work in portfolios--while they are busy revising from hard
copies. My problem is getting it to work on my various Macs. The
troubleshooting section of the booklet and on-line technical advice have not
yet helped me. Maybe someone here with Paperport can help me with these two
problems.
1.At home on my Performa 200 (4 RAM doubled, 80 MG harddrive) Though
software loads, the device won't even work on my Performa 200 with 7.0. I
mean that papers will not even roll into the scanner. It is on and humming
and attached properly to the computer. So what can I do?
2. On a more powerful PowerMac(8 RAM doubled, 250 MG hard-drive) at
school, papers do roll in, but software kicks on for only a moment and then
shuts down with a message that a Type 4 error has occurred. I don't have a
guide for this computer to tell me what that means. Is there a conflict
with other extensions and software. Should I shut off certain other
extensions? This is the one Power Mac 6110(?) at school that has all my
on-line, Internet stuff on. On another similar PowerMac in the same lab,
the device works perfectly, as described in the promotional materials. But
I want to be able to share scanned materials via my fax modem; and I want to
grade papers at home. Ity's important that I get the device to work on the
two machines that seem to reject it.
Could RamDoubler be causing problems on the other machines?
