Indiana University School of Library and Information Science at
Bloomington is recruiting a full-time, tenure-track faculty
member at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin fall 1996.
Highly desirable qualifications:
Scholarship: Demonstrable research record or
potential; willingness to engage in collaborative
research and publication; ability to present at
major national and international symposia.
Vision: Intellectual curiosity; boundary spanning;
interest in the intersection of information science
with other disciplines.
Teaching ability: Commitment to rigor in
teaching; ability to excite the best students to
explore and experiment.
PhD: Completed or expected in information
science, computer science, information systems, or
related field.
Areas of specialization (illustrative):
Computer-based information tools; networked information
retrieval; computer-supported cooperative work; multimedia
systems design; user needs and behavior; digital
libraries/archives.
Teaching responsibilities:
Four courses per academic year. Optional summer and CE
teaching opportunities. The School offers the Master of
Information Science (MIS) and Master of Library Science (MLS)
degrees. There is also a large Ph.D. program and a post-master's
specialist degree.
Indiana University is a major research university and the
candidate will be expected to meet the requirements of
scholarship and publication of such an institution. The School of
Library and Information Science is one of the largest and most
highly ranked in North America, and its faculty are among the
most productive in the field. Salary commensurate with
