Hi Cathy,

Interested in the following?

Call For Collaboration

PROJECT NAME: PrimeTime 96

OBJECTIVE: Increase student awareness of the interdependent
relationships existing between food, health and the environment

SUBJECTS INVOLVED: Math, science, health, language arts, library
science and computer technology

GRADE LEVEL: This project can easily be tailored and duplicated for
grade levels three and above

OVERVIEW: Fourth grade students at St. Bernards School are researching
the "cradle to grave" relationships existing between food, nutrition and
the environment. Students select foods from the basic food groups and
research production, packaging, distribution, consumption and
environmental impacts associated with their food.

Students use the Internet to survey other schools across the US and
Canada to

* Determine the regional cost of their selected food items
* Evaluate student dietary habits
* Assess regional recycling efforts

Survey data is entered into databases to assist students to arrive at
independent conclusions about the data they obtained during their
research and survey data. The project concludes with the students
preparing a multimedia report on their research and conclusions.

PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Complete and return registration form by Feb. 16, 1996

2. Go to your local supermarket and get the cost of the food items on
the project grocery list and return the cost list by March 4, 1996.

3. During the week of Feb. 26 - Mar 1 have each student in the class
complete a five-day nutritional log of the number of servings eaten
from the five food groups and return by March 11, 1996.

4. Complete the recycling questionnaire and return by Mar 10, 1996.

Note: Participants will receive copies of the grocery list, nutritional
log
and questionnaire upon registration.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS GET:

Each participant who completes and returns their grocery list,
nutritional log and recycling questionnaire will receive:

* A detailed project workplan and timeline
* A copy of all database and survey templates
* A copy of all data used in the project
