Our school district is in the process of reviewing the selection policy for
instructional materials. The section concerning films and videotapes poses
several questions:

1. May we show R-rated films or films rated above the student's age level
(i.e PG-13) in the classroom for instructional purposes? If so, should we
require a permission slip signed by the parent in advance?
2. How do we assess other commercially produced films which may contain
information or graphics considered objectionable by parents, but are not rated
(i.e. foreign films, documentaries, health topics)?
3. May teachers rent videotapes from the local video store for instructional
use in the classroom?

Please forward guidelines or policies that you are willing to share. Thank
you.
