I'd like to add a word of caution regarding the proposed
chemical fix to static. If you or any of your colleagues or
students has severe allergies, there is a danger involved
in exposure to volatile chemical vapors.
allergic history + stress + chemical exposures
can lead to development of environmental illness. Once
you get EI, it's a bear to control or get over. Plus,
if anyone using the computers already has EI, they're
likely to be adversely affected. Fabric softeners is
one of the banes of my existence. I'd advise avoiding
unnecessary chemical exposures, based on 15 years of
personal struggle.
