I had a similar problem with my Global Village Platinum modem on a PowerMac
6100 after I had installed an internet security program. When I took it off
my hard drive, I had forgotten to uninstall it and a file left in the
preferences folder kept interferring. Once I uninstalled the program my ppp
connection returned to normal.
