Fabric softener seems to work well for us to suppress static problems in
areas that do not have grounding mats or anti-static carpet. Real
anti-static carpeting has conductive metal filaments and is fairly
expensive, not to mention the darn stuff wears out fast. The custodians
mix some in when they shampoo the carpets as well as periodically spray the
computer areas with little spray bottle gadgets.
