Dan, I taught in a lab situation for 4 years, without projection
screens, etc. I would suggest strongly that the instructor station be at
the back of the room so that you can see students' monitors. Otherwise,
you'll have to leave the front area, and walk around a lot!! I suggest
using plastic cups (red for stop!) for them to put on top of monitors when
they need help.
I just taught for first time in a networked lab with expensive (not
overhead projectors) presentation equipment; that was great, but I was at
the front and couldn't monitor what was going on in _PowerPoint_ on the
students screens. This was a first intro. class. So I had to walk around a
lot, and lab designer hadn't put enough space for instructor to walk behind
users/students; also table rows/counters were flush to the wall, so had to
go all the way in to help end person and then walk all the way back again to
get to next person!
