Help: Global village modem

A friend is having trouble with his Global Village modem. Using a Performa
631CD he had his ppp connection working until he installed the software for
his Global Village Gold 14.4 modem. Now the open button in ppp config stays
grayed out and he can't get it on. He has reinstalled MacTcp and rewritten
all of the settings. The modem will work with it's software, but he can't
get his ppp connection. Does anybody have any ideas?
