I was wondering if you or other teachers at Peotone construct your
own grade books using a spreadsheet app? Last week, as I taught a group
of teachers about Excel, I first showed them how to use it as a database
for their classes and as a mail merge tool for word processor documents.
That worked well, but then I showed the group how to also link several
spreads together so that one or several cells in the database could hold
numbers/grades which could then be included in the merge documents.
Needless to say they were all excited by the potential power. Because each
of us has our own approach to grading, the idea of customizing through
linked spreads was most appealling.
