HyperStudio in BASIC course?

This school year I will be teaching a course in "Intro. to Computer
Programming" for the first time. Our textbook, and the general focus of
the course will be on BASIC programming, but I would like to do some work
with HyperStudio. I've worked with the program, I'm taking a free
graduate course in it next week, and Roger Wagner Pub. is giving me a
free network license until Sept. 30. Am I crazy to start a course in
BASIC with HyperStudio and multimedia "programming." I guess I'm afraid
the high school students will be so enchanted with the bells and
whistles, that when the line by line programming starts, they'll get
bored. Any ideas?

To be honest, it has also been years since I did any BASIC. I'm trying to
buy myself time to develop lessons etc. Any general advice on teaching
the language.
