Any Mac that is running MacTCP and disconnects during a dialup session (or
even direct connect sessions, thoug hthis is rare), runs the risk of
corrupting the MacTCP DNR file that is in the system folder. Restarting
will sometimes correct this, but the best fix I've found is to throw that
file in the trash and let the software generate a fresh one. I'm working
on an Applescript program now that I am going to load into the Shutdown
folder of my districts Macs that will automatically trash that file each
time the machine shuts down. That will insure that my teachers won't have
that problem (even though we don't use dialup accounts). That should make
the connection process much smoother. I have been using this "fix" for 3
years now. It works well.
