MS Word 6. help needed

I am in need of a MicroSoft Word 6.0 (Windows) guru. I have many
WordPerfect 6.0 or 6.1 documents, especially outlines (lengthy) that I need
to now convert to Word. We can bring them in by saving them as RTF files
and bringing them into Word that way, but the formatting is really fouled
up. It takes many many hours to get them back into the outline format, and
requires a lot of strange copy and paste acrobatics. Does anyone have any
experience with this? My husband's company dumped WP in favor of Word and
removed it from all the computers. We do have both at home. Right now we
are both rather disgusted with Word.
Related Questions: Is there any way to see all the formatting in Word as
you can in WP? Also, is there a way to center the title when using the
outline format in Word?
TIA
