I'm afraid I have to disagree with Jeff. I don't see the need for
every student to have their own computer at school. Ideally, students
could work in pairs or small groups "together" on a single computer,
thus promoting discussion around the activites and representations
mediated "through" the computer and its' possible connections to
outside resources - i.e., the Internet. I believe this represents a
smarter use of technology given current theories of learning.
While I might agree that each student "should" have their own
computer at home, I cannot advocate one computer/one student for a
school, because I don't believe this is a practical way to spend
money in the classroom. Even my "model" classroom would not have a
computer for every student for the reasons I've described above.
