Connecting Macs

I have 4 stand alone Macs in my library. 1 is an LCIII and the others are
performa(LC?)580. I have successfully connected the LCIII and one 580 using
SCSI cables and the separate CD_ROM drive used by the LCIII.
When I tried to connect the other 2 performas with a SCSII cable, nothing
worked. I am told they would have the same number which needs to be
changed. How do I do this please?
Is there some equipment (like a double adaptor) that would enable me to
connect all 4? We do get tired of changing CDs for the students but are too
poor to afford a tower(we had to lease the 580s).
Am I risking problems when one freezes? One of the 580s is connected to the net.
TIA
