My name is Cathy de Moll and I am a new subscriber to EDTECH. In this new
technology we have to invent our own titles, and my chosen title is
"producer of original internet programming." I have been involved in
communicating adventure learning programs to schools since 1989 when I
managed Will Steger's expedition across Antarctica and we put together a
program for schools communicated by e-mail, fax, newsletter, magazine
coverage, telephone, you name it...even the youth edition of People's Daily
of China. I also helped form the World School for Adventure Learning,
designed the International Arctic Project, and worked on the
conceptualization and management of MayaQuest. My company began to provide
business and programming consulting to adventure learning projects, but I
began to see that schools need not just internet delivery of the
adventures themselves, but they needed an educational context built for
them. Furthermore, schools needed an Internet "librarian" function--
somebody collecting Internet resources pertaining to an exciting topic so
that the teacher can dive right into the subject matter.

Thus, TBT International has evolved into a producer of original
programming. We created Blue Ice: Focus On Antarctica last year -- a three
month virtual journey to Antarctica to study food webs and geology/global
warming. Rather than focusing on one expedition or adventure, we made the
kids the adventurers, interviewing scientists in the field, explorers, etc.
We'll run Blue Ice again this year in October '96 and January '97.

With the enthusiastic reception of Blue Ice, we've put our heads together
to create "Balloteers: Voting In the 21st Century" (an elections
headquarters for gr. 4-12), and "Nepture Series: OceanExpo '98" a two-year
voyage around the globe's oceans with a fleet of sailing ships celebrating
the 500th anniversary of Portuguese exploration.

We have a Web site, of course: <http://www.usinternet.com/onlineclass> or
you can ask for a brochure by e-mailing <tbt@onlineclass.com>.

I'm here to learn more about other projects happening, Web sites we can
highlight in our programs, and to learn more about what teachers need and
know.

Obviously, I am looking particularly now for good Internet resources on the
elections and on oceans. Let me know if you have anything to share. And
thanks for providing this great forum.
