As a teacher in chemistry and a MEd(CBT) student I intend to launch a
project "Constructivism and the Internet" with
std.9 (17 years) pupils in chemistry. The problem which they have to
solve will be:
Syllabus topic: Concentration and the mole concept
"Take 250 ml of the water of the swimming pool (or any other authentic
example) and determine the concentration of the chloride ions in the
solution"
These children have never used any Internet facilities before. They do
not know what a mole is or concentration. They must make any
presentation of the solution of the problem.
They must be able to use the Internet (E-mail and WWW, etc.) to put
construct a solution.
As a newbie I need help on the following please:
1. Any relevant URL or Web sites or Newsgroups/Listserves to find
information on:
concentration; mole concept; halogens; test for chloride ions.
2. Any information re a similar project using the Internet:
a. any suggestions
b. any obstacles to avoid
c. any warnings
d. any contributions
e. any appropriate experiments
3. Any volunteers that would like the children to contact them and ask
questions on this. Please send your E-mail addresses.
Please mail to me personally. If anybody would be like interested in the
information I collected, feel free to ask!
The project will start +/- 12 th May 1996.
Thank you
Annette de Jager
