Schank was instrumental in bringing AI to Northwestern around 1989.
Schank and his staff are working on numerous projects with
Andersen Consulting, Ameritech, and too many others to list.
Check out their web site for more info including his hyperbook entitled,
Engines for Education. An excellent reference tool for improving the quality
of education in schools and industry.
Roger Schank earned his linguistics and doctoral degrees in
linguistics at the University of Texas. From there he landed
a computer-science teaching job at Stanford University. Then, as
the director of Yale's AI Lab from 1974 to 1989, he hit
the big time, attracting venture capital to start two AI software
companies. Right after that, he went to Northwestern University and
became the director of the Institute of Learning Sciences.
