Compaq and network card

A new computer was purchased for the business department a few months ago
and we recently tried to hook it to the network. After two months of
frustration I don't know what I am doing. If anyone understands this
problem I could sure use the help.

The computer is a Compaq Presario 9546. We installed a NIC2000 compatible
network card. St one point we were actually hooked to the network but the
CDROM wouldn't work. When we got the CDROM back the network was
nonaccessible. Can anyone tell me what address will work for the network
control card? Also, we have a dedicated line and when we were hooked to the
network we were still unable to access the internet programs.
