Looking for advice/mac lab upgrade

I currently have a mac lab of 13 lcIIs, 2 lcIIIs, 1 lc475, 1 mac IIsi and 1
PPC 6100/60 AV. Replacing the LCIIs is not a reality for next year even
though the 40mg drives are maxed out and the 4mgs of RAM keeps me at system
7.1. I believe that I could replace the hard drives with 240 mg drives and
boost the RAM to 8mg for approximately $200 per machine. Then once I
replace those machines the following year, they will go into classrooms
where the increased RAM and hard drive space will not be wasted. Does this
sound like a good option? What problems might I have with installing and
running the 240 mg hard drives? Is this a good use of money? I need more
room for new software and I don't think that networking it would be
efficient. All the computers and a laserwriter are phonenet connected.
More RAM and hard drive space would also be valuable for eventual Internet
access.

Has anyone on this list experienced a similar situation?
Thanks for your help.
