CLINICS
FIDA
Ghana in order to meet the needs of Ghanaian women and children
who are unable to afford legal services has adopted the concept
of legal aid clinics.
These
clinics are organised twice a week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. They
provide counselling sessions and also use various Alternative Dispute
Resolution(ADR) methods. Some of which are mediation, concilliation
and arbitration.
The
volunteers at these clinics are lawyers who are members of FIDA
and offer their services pro bono.In the instances where resolutions
are not found to these issues at the FIDA offices, these lawyers
readily take on the cases of these clients and represent them in
court pro bono.
The
success of these clinics can be seen in the increasing number of
cases each year. At the end of the year 1985, when FIDA began these
Legal Aid Clinics there were 25 new cases,as at the year 2000 the
number of new cases had increased to as many as 2000.
