Bromsen, Maury A. (Brown University), President Gregorian, Brown University, announced in November that Dr. Maury A. Bromsen has been appointed Honorary Curator and Bibliographer of Latin Americana at the JCB. This appointment is most fitting because Dr. Bromsen intends to bequeath to the Library a substantial endowment which will include funds to underwrite a permanent curatorship of Latin Americana named after himself, plus funds for a number of other purposes (see Brown University in Institutional News).

Duarte Jr., Joaquim M. (Thunderbird University), Retired from teaching in 1995 and served as consultant on bibliography at our library for two years and is now Ombudsman; taught courses on Latin America, Spain, Portugal and the Portuguese -speaking nations of Africa for 32 years and set up a Portuguese Studies Center.

Ewell, Judith (College of William and Mary), stepped down as Chair of the Department of History at that institution in July. Her leave during the 1998-99 academic year will be spent in Washington, D.C., to do research on early nineteenth century Ecuador and to take on the position as editor of the quarterly journal The Americas.
