Many changes occurred with H-LatAm since Spring. The entire list moved to H-Net's computers at Michigan State University; one editor changed addresses; and the other, Phil Mueller, went inactive while teaching for the PACE program in the U.S. Navy. As a result of the latter, H-LatAm needs volunteers who would like to become either co-editors or assistant editors of the list. With our many projects, it is too much for one editor. Anyone who is interested should contact Jackie Kent at the address below.
We continue to build the website for use by Latin Americanists in both teaching and research endeavors. Please send in your bibliographies, syllabi, and archive information so that it can be placed on the web. The CLAH portion of the web added a protected page so that the current newsletters can be viewed online by CLAH members. Further, we have added membership forms for use by those interested and general information about the organization. Please visit the website at http://h-net.msu.edu/~latam. To reach the Clah homepage, use http://h-net.msu.edu/~clah.
We anticipate launching a translation project for use by students who do not read Spanish, Portuguese, or English in the near future. In this case, documents translated by volunteers would be placed on the web and used as source material for research projects. H-LatAm needs a coordinator to head this project and requests volunteers.
The occasional papers project is growing. Several Latin American journals have given permission to reprint some of their articles and these should appear over the next few months. Anyone interested in having H-LatAm reprint an article from a lesser known journal or submitting original work is welcome to contact us.
H-Net is launching a teaching project that will assist in all areas of teaching. We need to hear what you would like to see on the web that would help you in the teaching of Latin American history.
Expansion of the book review project necessitates the call for more volunteer reviewers. One does not need to be online to review for H-LatAm. Anyone on or offline who is interested in reviewing new books for this project should send in his/her name, postal address, e-mail address, and areas of interest and we will add you to our list of reviewers. Most publishers are now sending us pre-publication volumes for review. We welcome contact from any Latin American publisher or author who would like to see works reviewed on H-LatAm.
Look forward to seeing all of you in New York in January.
