On a totally irrelevant note, there's another article in this JAH:
Louis A Perez,Jr., "Between Baseball and Bullfighting: The Quest for
Nationality in Cuba, 1868-1898"
It begins "Before the republic, there was baseball. After the
revolution, there was baseball. And during all the years in between --
there was baseball."
In light of Ken Burns's currently-aired series, and in light of the
strike and the ABSENCE of the other series, I thought this examination
of baseball and Cuban character might be of interest to at least some
historians.
