I am part of the Save Historic Antietam Foundation; we have
cooperated with the National Park Service and state agencies to preserve
sites in and around the battlefield at Sharpsburg. From my experiences, I
would say that Antietam is the best preserved major battlefield in the
East. Part of the reason for this is the somewhat remote location of the
battle in relation to major urban centers, but that status is quickly
changing. I will be happy to answer any queries about preservation at
Antietam.
