A friend of mine has a Zouave uniform worn by his great grandfather.
It comes complete with a bullet hole in one sleeve. It is a standard
Zouave uniform in cut and made of dark blue fabric with sky-blue edging.
The buttons, well over twenty, are pre-war "I" cuff buttons. The
regiment was not, however, a Zouave unit. I understand that some regiments
were awarded such uniforms for outstanding service. Does anyone out there
know if that was indeed the practice and/or how widespread the practice was?
Thanks,
