Subject: Question

This question might be more appropriate for a constitutional law list, but
since it deals with secession, I'll ask it here.

Did any Federal court ever render an opinion on the legality of secession?
I seem to recall being told that one of the Reconstruction-era decisions
asserted that secession violated some clause somewhere, but I would like
more details if possible.
