Subject: Pauline Cushman

Does anyone have any information about Pauline Cushman (1833-1893)? She
appears to have been an actress and spy for the Union. My sources state
that she was caught by the Confederacy and sentenced to hang, but was
saved by Union troops, celebrated as a heroine, and ended up giving
lectures in her Union army uniform. One source states that she was
African-American, but another one is silent. While I have found her
mentioned in a book called *Women in the Civil War" by Mary Elizabeth
Massey, I would appreciate anyone directing me to any additional sources
of information.
Thank you.
