Is there someone who can help me resolve a dispute among some colleagues
about how common it was for women to visit or work in civil war camps?
I am not interested in women disguising themselves as soldiers. Rather,
I am interested in how common it was for wives, sisters, mothers and
sweethearts to visit soldiers in camp or for women to work in the
laundry, or as cooks or as nurses in the camps. Some colleagues say
it was extremely rare. Others claim it was common, especially when
many of the soldiers were fighting close to home. Any documentation
or sources of information would be appreciated.
