Tom,
I don't know about a larger size for the Warren map, but I
thought I might add some other Gettysburg map information. The Warren Map
is part of the OR. Plate XCV.
Also included in the OR is the map of the battle filed by Robert
E. Lee , Plate XLIII, noting the positions for the second day. The map
locates Sickles' Corps on Cemetery Ridge, not on Emmitsburg Road, shows
McClaws perpindicular to the Emmitsburg Road facing some units of the II
and III Corps across Emmitsburg Road, and does not show any attack by
Anderson.
You may be aware the Bachelder maps are in reprint by Morningside
of Ohio. They accompany Volume I of the papers. The three maps for each
day measure 25 X 32 inches. Yes, you will need a bright light and a
magnifying glass. The text of the papers is keyed to the maps which
makes them very useful.
In May my two brothers and I used a copy of the Warren map you have to
attempt to follow Col. Oates' route over Big Round Top and into the
position of the 20th Me. It was of great help in showing us exactly
where we were lost in the woods.
