The Australian Historical Association is the major body representing
historians in Australia. History '94, its biennial national conference
will mark the 21st anniversary of the foundation of AHA at the 1973 ANZAAS
Conference in Perth.
CONFERENCE VENUES
The conference will be held at the University of Western Australia. Set in
parklike gardens on the banks of the Swan River, UWA has one of the most
beautiful campuses in Australia.
SESSIONS
Over 150 papers have been offered and sessions, held in four parallel
streams each day, will focus on Making Histories, Indigenous Peoples,
Bodies & Identities, Monarchies & Republics, Post Modern & Post Colonial
Challenges for History, Immigration, Chinese Settlers & Sojourners, Irish
Convictism, Female Constructions, Subversions, Public History & Heritage,
Cultural Transmissions, Spaces & Sites, the Environment, Medicine & Health,
Foreign Policy and the Economy.
There will also be a session explaining the mysteries and marvels of H-net
and, for postgraduates only, an All Star Seminar with our leading speakers.

PHYLLIS MACK, Rutgers University - author of Visionary Women: Ecstatic
Prophecy in Seventeenth Century England, winner of the Berkshire Conference
of Women Historians Book Prize 1993
CATHERINE HALL, University of Essex - author of White, Male and Middle
Class: Explorations in Feminism and History
DIPESH CHAKRABARTY, Australian National University - an editor of Subaltern
Studies & author of Rethinking Working Class History.
HENRY REYNOLDS, James Cook University - author of The Other Side of the
Frontier, Law of the Land and With the White People
RICHARD JENSEN, University of Illinois, Chicago - political and
quantitative historian and Director of H-net.
