Applications are invited for the anticipated position of Head,
Department of History, effective September 1, 1995. The
candidate should be an historian with a distinguished record
of scholarship and teaching, and broad departmental and
university service. Field is open, although the Department
would prefer to appoint an historian working in American or
European history since 1600.
Responsibilities include the coordination of an outstanding
and dynamic department of 39 faculty (31 at Storrs and 8 at
the regional campuses); the further development and
enhancement of the research and teaching programs of a diverse
graduate curriculum at both the Doctoral and Master's levels,
and the strengthening of the undergraduate curriculum.
Rank is at the senior level. Salary is negotiable. Screening

Position: U.S. History/Political Science
Institution: Samford University
Location: Alabama
History/Political Science: Chair/History and Political Science
Department. Ph.D., established scholar, tenure track position,
rank and salary negotiable, start fall semester, 1995. U.S.
historian, 19th Century, able to teach some of the following:
Early National, Gilded Age, Old South, or Colonial.
Demonstrated administrative and teaching capabilities;
experience, flexibility, and maturity; commitment to
interdisciplinary cooperation and ability to interact
effectively and congenially with faculty of diverse views and
activities in several disciplines and with students and staff.

Position: Archivist
Institution: The Sixth Floor Museum
Location: Texas
Archives: Archivist, The Sixth Floor Museum, Dallas, Texas.
Proposed position starting October 1. The museum is completing
designs to create a full-service library and research center
on-site, dedicated to the study of the life, death and legacy
of President John F. Kennedy. Management position reporting to
the Executive Director. Archivist will oversee establishment
and operation of the museum archives/research center,
including budgeting, collections management, and conservation
assessments. Responsible for maintenance of the archival
facility for use of researchers, handles photographic and
research requests, solicits archival acquisitions for the
collections, assists in the preparation of educational
information, supervises museum research volunteers, and works
closely with Head of Interpretation on artifact collections
management. Advanced degree in library science and/or three
years' collections management experience required, strong
organizational and interpersonal skills, computer literacy.
Expertise in JFK a highly priority. Salary: $28,000-$30,000

The museum seeks dynamic professional to oversee artifact
collections/acquisitions, exhibitions, and educational
programs at its expanding Dallas facility dedicated to
interpreting the life, death and legacy of President John F.
Kennedy. We seek a leader to develop programs to serve our
international audiences both on and off site. Senior
management position, reporting to the Executive Director.
Advanced degree in American history, American material culture
or related field with at least five years' direct museum
experience in research, curation, planning, exhibit
development and creation of innovative educational programs.
Expertise in 20th century American studies a high priority;
published professional preferred. Salary: $32,000-$38,000 plus
