ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION AREA FOR PCA/ACA MEETINGS IN PHILADELPHIA, 1995

Popular Culture / American Culture Associations Annual Meetings
Marriott Hotel, Philadephia, PA April 12-15, 1995

----------------------------------------------
For the 1995 meetings, a new area on electronic communication has been created.
John Lawrence is the area chair.

I. A PANEL ON H-PCAACA-->
An essential part of the program will be a gathering of H-PCAACA actual people.
They will be led in discussion by your moderators. At least the following, and
many other questions will be discussed.
(1) What did we accomplish during our first year?
(2) What were the best discussions? What made them work?
(3) What features of H-PCAACA should be more fully developed?
This panel will be scheduled so that we can follow up with a late afternoon
social gathering. You will be able to compare the virtual people you know with
the real people you meet and converse with.

II. A PANEL ON ELECTRONIC PUBLISHING

Joe Dudley has called for a panel on this topic, which has been so well
discussed at times on our net. We would like to have proposals from several
people who would like to address the issue. Significance, popularity, quality,
prestige and status, are all likely angles to consider.

III. PANELS ON OTHER TOPICS?

MOOS, MUSHES, MUDS
ELECTRONIC DEPORTMENT, VIRTUAL SELVES
THE COMMERCIAL BULLETIN BOARD MOVEMENT
THE NON-COMMERCIAL, MOM & POP BULLETIN BOARDS
CD-ROMS AS POPULAR CULTURE
PATTERNS OF ADDICTION AND TREATMENT IN ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION
THE USES OF NETWORK MATERIAL AS INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES
THE DEPICTION OF ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION IN NEWS AND FICTIONAL MEDIA

The topics here are limitless.

--------------------------------------------------------
Plan a presentation of 15-20 minutes in length. Be prepared to deliver it
conversationally with ample opportunity for audience participation. If you would

like to float ideas for a panel on our network, do so.

Send your proposal (AN ABSTRACT OF APPROXIMATELY 250 WORDS) electronically or to

the snailbox of-->
