PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ALONG TO ALL GRADUATE STUDENTS WHO MAY BE
INTERESTED IN ATTENDING THE EHA MEETINGS.

The 1994 EHA meetings will be held in Cincinnati Ohio October 7-9. The
Hyatt Regency will be the host hotel.

Graduate students are especially encouraged to attend the meetings. This
is a good opportunity to see how the profession functions, what sort of
papers are presented, to meet a few of those big (and not so big) names,
and to generally network with faculty and other graduate students.
Especially those students who plan to go on the market in economic
history in the 1994-95 year are encouraged to attend; economic history is
a small field and who-you-have-met never hurts.

Most graduate students face tight budget constraints. We therefore
encourage grad students to double up on rooms. (Some have been known to
go 4 to a room, but once you get beyond one person per bed, you're on
your own!) TO FACILITATE FINDING ROOMMATES, I AM OFFERING THE FOLLOWING
SERVICE:

If you want to room with someone at EHA, send me an e-mail. Include
your name, gender, e-mail address, phone number(s), and any habits that
others would reasonably want to know about if they were to room with you
(do you smoke? snore? pace until 5 a.m.?)

I WILL *NOT* MATCH PEOPLE TOGETHER.

THIS IS ONLY FOR GRAD STUDENTS. THE REST OF US CAN FEND FOR OURSELVES.

I will simply funnel information to other graduate students who are
looking for a roommate. That is, I will send your message to all people
who have previously written to me seeking a roommate. When you find
someone to room with, please let me know; I will then take you and your
roommate off the list of people to whom I forward messages from roommate
seekers.

This is an experiment. If this works well and people appreciate the
process, we'll do this again in the future. If people don't appreciate
the process (or whine too much), we'll not do this next year.

No doubt the expert list-types will have suggestions as to how to do this
more efficiently. Suggestions welcome, but in all likelihood I'll file
them away for using next time rather than tinkering with an announced system.

So let all grad students know to send roommate requests to
MOlney@econ.berkeley.edu

Thanks!
