I am researching the following story and would appreciate any input
you-all may have.
On May 22, 1861 a Union private Thornberry Bailey Brown was killed by one
or more Confederate pickets at Fetterman, West Virginia. He is buried in
the National Cemetary in Grafton, West Virginia, and there is a monument
attesting to the above information located just outside of Grafton near a
bridge on, I think, Route 50. He is said to be the first enlisted Union
soldier killed in the Civil War as a result of shots fired in anger.
The only major reference I've been able to find thus far is The History of
Taylor County West Virginia produced by the Taylor County History and
Genealogical Society.
Any nibbles?
