Southwestern Archivists will meet in El Paso.
The Society of Southwest Archivists will hold its 1994
annual meeting in El Paso, Texas, on May 19 - 21. Pre-
registration packets have been mailed to members and others
on our mailing list. You may contact me directly if you
would like for me to send you a packet (including the
preliminary program, registration form, descriptions and
registration forms for pre-conference workshops, and
information on optional tours) by e-mail. I've also sent a
text file with that information to list coordinator John
Harlan to place in the Archives list files.
The Camino Real Paso del Norte Hotel is the meeting
site. Located in downtown El Paso, the hotel is on the
National Register of Historic Places while also offering all
the modern amenities that we expect from hotels these days.
Unfortunately, the very reasonable room rates for the SSA
meeting are only guaranteed if you make reservations by
April 19. So, if you plan to attend, please call the hotel
at either (915) 534-3099 or 1-800-769-4300 as soon as
possible. (Rates for a standard room are $55 single, $65
double; $10 more for "deluxe" rooms, and $15 extra for each
additional person in the room, up to 4 guests.)
Although the area served by the Society of Southwest
Archivists is a mere six states (Arkansas, Arizona,
Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas), we expect
participants from several other states and from Mexico.
Remember: El Paso is conveniently located halfway between
Houston and Los Angeles! All are invited. As the Chamber
of Commerce slogan suggests: Make history on the border.
