To H-CivWar subscribers:
I am looking for information on Confederate and Union soldiers who served
in Florida units (1st Florida Cavalry, 3rd Florida Infantry, etc.) during
the Civil War. I am compiling a work which will contain biographical
entries arranged by unit then company for all of Florida's soldiers. This
work will be published as a three to four volume work set by Broadfoot
Publishing Company in Wilmington NC later this year.
Each entry will give a brief description of the soldier's military
experience from enlistment date to date of leaving the service. It will
also contain genealogical information like date of birth, marriage, death,
occupation, abstracts of letters, place of burial, etc. and a photo
whenever possible.
I am now in the third year of research and have used the Compiled Service
Records, published letters, diaries, genealogical articles, ancestor's
letters, major cemetery lists (from Federal prisons, Hollywood Cemetery,
Oakland Cemetery, Chattanooga, etc.) and have thoroughly exhausted major
Florida collections at the State Archives, Florida State University and
University of Florida.
I am particularly looking for any recently published or acquired or
original information. Photos of soldiers and artifacts (guns, swords,
canteens, etc.) are also needed for the photo section. Names of contacts
(including ancestors) will be graciously accepted. Librarians are welcome
to post this notice in genealogy rooms.
Thank you for your time.
