There was a remarkable aparallel between the US Civil War and the VietNam
war in that over 40,000 Canadians are believed to have volunteered to
serve with US forces.
Your fifgures are "about right", as there seems to be no accurate way of
counting them.
One aspect that may give you a thread of a lead... there are several
Canadian veterans of the USCW bureid in cemeteries in Hamilton, Ont. Much
fuss used to be made in Hamilton whenever there was a funeral there of an
old-timer of the USCW
Ofiicers? There must have been numerous ones. I seem to recall one of the
prominent officers at the Battle of the Little Bih Horn, under Custer, was
a Canadian.. (?? Benteen??Reno?? one of them...)
Good hunting.
