Longstreet got a bad rap because of his criticism of Lee's strategy's especially
at Gettysburg.
After the war, Longstreet joined the Republican Party. Compound this with
the deification of Lee after his death, and Longstreet was a branded a traitor
by his former comrades-in-arms. This was taken to the extreme when
Longstreet wasn't invited to a reunion of the Army of Northern Virginia. He
showed up anyway and was warmly greeted by Jefferson Davis.
