I recently read an excellent book, whose author I cannot remember. It was
titled "General James Longstreet", and dealt extensively with destroying
many of the old misconceptions about the 'Lost Cause'. It is the first
major work that I know of on Longstreet, Lee's ranking Lieutenant, in
almost 40 years, and well worth the trouble.
