I'm writing a paper about the professional historiography on Robert
E. Lee, tracing from the late 19th c. (beginnings of the real prof-
essional historians) to the present. I'm also taking a look at the
changing historiographic opinion as to the Lost Cause at the same
time. If anybody has any suggestions of books and other materials
that might be appropriate, I'd really appreciate it! If you need
more specifics, let me know.

p.s. Has anyone heard of any recordings of the actual martial
"music" as played on the battlefield? (i.e. the long roll, Dan
Butterfield, charge, retreat, etc.--e.g. as printed in the back
of Hardee's "Tactics") Thanks!
