Several people have posted to this group about recordings of
the music of the Civil War, and I thought of a couple of other
names and albums y'all might be interested in. Joe Ayres and his
sons have cut some music and also do shows. I do not know any
names or titles of their stuff however.

I do have a copy of Sparky and Rhonda Rucker's _The Blue and
Grey in Black and White_, c. 1992 from Flying Fish records,
1304 W. Schubert, Chicago IL, 60614. This is a collection of
Civil War songs performed on guitar, banjo, piano, percussion,
two vocalists - it is a selection from their costumed
performances under the same title. Songs include Lorena,
Battle Cry of Freedom, Tenting on the Old Campground, and
several more obscure titles.

While the concept and tunes are interesting, and Sparky has a
very good bluesy voice, it is not an album that is played
frequently in my house - the sound is a little bit flat and the
arrangements are often boring. IMHO Sparky and Rhonda have put
out a good novelty album but not a compelling collection of
folk music.

Hope this helps you out.
