Invalid Corps

In the course of researching the 84th Pa. I have come across numerous
references of tranfers of some of its men to the "Invalid Corps" which I
gather was formed either late '62 or early '63. Does anybody out there have
the time to write a brief description of the forming and function of this
organizational unit, and the criteria for transfer to it?
