Jennifer--

While I was up in the Virginia Room at the Fairfax County (Va.)
Public Library tonight, I checked out the resources there. I discovered
that the 28th Virginia Infantry Regiment had 3 companies raised in
Botetourt County. Cross-checking that with the Virginia Regimental
Histories Series (a multi-multi-volume set about nearly all the Va.
Confederate infantry, cavalry, and artillery units), I discovered that
two volumes deal with these companies from Botetourt: the first is a
history of the 28th Regiment itself, and the second is a history of
the Botetourt Artillery, which was originally Company I of the 28th.
Interlibrary loan with a Virginia college might be able to get
you a copy of the two books. Unfortunately, the series has only had
a limited release, so I don't know how many libraries are actually
loaning their copies.
I also determined that the Central library (where I was this
evening) has 13 books on geneology in Botetourt Co., and a few
copies of county histories.
If you'd like me to forward any of the bibiographic info that
I can dig up, just let me know.
