I was interested in your comments about reenactors, as well as about Burns.
I am teaching Civ War & Reconstruction for the first time this semester and
invited a student who is involved in reenactments to come to class in
costume & talk about his character. He was great & the students loved it.
He even brought them hard tack to sample. I have also been using Burns
in class, but I am having problems figuring out HOW to use him--the series
is so long that I would have to allocate 2/3 of the course to him in order
to view the entire series. I have heard that there is a teaching guide
available, produced for the series. Has anyone used it? Is it any good?
How do I get it? Any tims (sorry, tips) from those of you who are
incorporating Burns into your courses. Which segments are the most useful?
My students have told me that they think the video footage adds a dimension
that would not otherwise be available to them. Thanks
