I can't say how the movie will be, but I do know that the novel falls on
the sensationalist side of historical fiction. I've heard that the reason
the book won a Pulitzer was more for political reasons than anything else.
The book is fairly accurate as far as geography goes, but it also leans
toward speculation about several major generals' characters. I suppose
what I liked least about the novel was the bias against Southern soldiers,
particularly the poor whites. I hope the movie is a little more even
handed but I must say I'm not holding my breath.
