CHAIRPERSON'S STATEMENT

AWLA has come a long way! In the short time of its existence, the Association has seen a steady growth in volume and quality of work The clarity of vision and sense of purpose of the Executive coupled with the commitment of the 40-strong membership have propelled AWLA to its current status of being one of the leading NGOs in Ghana.

We are now poised to deliver continue to deliver quality service to our society and to African Women generally. Whilst there is still room for improvement, we are making steady progress towards our noble goals.

In Ghana in particular, we have come this far by dint of the confidence reposed in us by our Donors. Of special mention are DANIDA, UNICEF, Save the Children, the Swedish Government, the International Human Rights Law Group and the US Embassy in Accra. They unearthed our potential and we owe them a debt of gratitude.

On the administrative front, we have also made good progress. Late in 2000 we progressed from a desk manned by our convenor, Ms. Edna Kuma into a spacious four-room office located in the prime business district of Asylum Down in the heart of Accra. We now have 3 full-time paid staff, including the Convenor.

AWLA has a six-member committee (including the Chairperson), to steer its affairs. Currently they are:
