From the Chairperson's Desk (Ghana): A.W.L.A Branches and Collaborators Membership
|
Is A.W.L.A the same as the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA)? No, A.W.L.A and FIDA are not the same body. FIDA is the international body of women lawyers with members drawn from 44 countries worldwide. A.W.L.A is the African grouping of women lawyers. The organizations have many members in common and they have similar agendas. Secondly, FIDA does not exist in some African countries and the female lawyers in those countries have formed themselves into a "Women Lawyers Group". A.W.L.A is the umbrella body for such Groups in some countries. What are some of A.W.L.A's projects? Please log onto the past projects and future projects pages for these details. Thank you for your interest in our activities. How can I support A.W.L.A? We would very much appreciate your support. You can assist us in several ways.
From where does A.W.L.A get its funding? A.W.L.A is very grateful to its donors, without whose support many of our projects would not have been possible. We are proud of our association with every one of them. Please see a list of our donors in the Chairperson's statement. Is membership only by country or can individuals become A.W.L.A members? Membership is open to individual female African lawyers or groups of female African lawyers resident in Africa or in the Diaspora. Please go to the membership page for more details. Can male lawyers become members of A.W.L.A? Unfortunately, male lawyers, non-African women and non-lawyers cannot be members of A.W.L.A. However, we welcome the support (financial, in-kind and moral) from any person or organization with a passion for improving the status of African women. How do I contact A.W.L.A? Please go to our contact page. We welcome contact from colleagues and friends. Is there a branch of A.W.L.A in my country or where is the branch nearest to me? Please go to the branches page.
