Nicholas M. Creary is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He received his M.A. in U.S. history from the Catholic University of America, and has recently completed his dissertation on the inculturation of the Catholic Church at Jesuit Missions in Southern Africa. He has published articles in The Historian, the journal of the National History Honor Society (Phi Alpha Theta), The Modern Catholic Encyclopedia, and The University and the City. Indre Cuplinskas is an Assistant Professor of Catholic Studies at St. Joseph's College at the University of Alberta. She recently completed a doctoral dissertation on the spirituality of the A Young Catholic Students' movement in French‑speaking Canada in the mid‑twentieth century. Joseph Lynch is professor of history at the Ohio State University. His main areas of research are monasticism and the social history of religion in the middle ages. He is author of Simonical Entry into Religious Life, 1000-1260: A Social, Economic, and Legal Study (1976); Godparents and Kinship in Early Medieval Europe (1986); The Medieval Church: A Brief History (1992); Christianizing Kinship: Ritual Sponsorship in Anglo-Saxon England, 597-1066 (1998). Elizabeth McGahan is a historian and sessional lecturer at the University of New Brunswick (Saint John). Dr. McGahan holds degrees from Boston College, Queens College (City University of New York) and the University of New Brunswick. Her published works on the history of Saint John have appeared in scholarly journals and dictionaries, and the popular press. She is the author of The Port of Saint John, 1867-1927 (1982) and Whispers from the Past: Selections from the writings of New Brunswick women (1986). Dr. McGahan served as President of the Canadian Association for Irish Studies (1993-1996) and the York-Sunbury Historical Society [New Brunswick] (1982-1985), and presently serves as Associate Editor of Historical Studies, the journal of the Canadian Catholic Historical Association. Peter Meehan is a professor in the School of Liberal Studies at Seneca College in Toronto, where he is also the Coordinator of its General Arts and Science program. He holds degrees in history and education and received his doctorate from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto in 2002. His dissertation examined the Catholic Taxpayer's Association, a Depression-era movement of Catholic Action in Ontario that strove, through direct political engagement, to resolve the province's age-old "school tax question." More recently, he has been commissioned to write a biography of Philip Pocock, seventh Archbishop of Toronto. Since 2004, Dr. Meehan has served as the Editor of Historical Studies, the journal of the Canadian Catholic Historical Association. His term ends January 1, 20010. Email: Peter.Meehan@Senecac.on.ca
Sam Thomas is a Professor of American History at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. His research interests focus on the GildedAge/Progressive Era and on the history of American Catholicism after Reconstruction. he has presented numerous papers and published articles in both areas. Some of his articles examine the impact and significance of political cartoons on American Catholicism and on the political culture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
