Submitting to the 2012 Volume of BEH On-Line

BHC presenters are invited to submit their papers for publication in Volume 10 (2012) of the electronic journal Business and Economic History On-Line (Papers Presented at the Business History Conference). The goal is always to post (publish) papers as quickly as possible, so we will begin posting them in batches as soon as they have been edited. We aim to have the 2012 issue completely posted by late fall 2012.

Papers must be in English and follow our citation style. Papers not meeting basic style guidelines will be returned to authors immediately for correction. Please use current issues as a guideline when preparing your papers. See also http://www.thebhc.org/publications/BEHonline/behstyle.html for more detailed information. Please pay particular attention to our footnote style (full names, not initials, of authors; month/season and year of publication for journals; place of publication [not publishers] for books, etc.; inclusive pages for essays in books; no bibliography). While the citation style should be followed strictly, formatting should be kept to a minimum (particularly no headers or footers, please). Please make sure that paper size is set to the American standard of 8.5x11 inches. Each paper should be accompanied by an abstract of 150-200 words (usually the abstract posted in advance on the BHC meeting pages).

Since this is an on-line publication, we encourage authors to include illustrations (accompanied by permissions when necessary) and Internet links in their papers.

Papers should be submitted via electronic file attachment, preferably in Word format. (Please do not send pdf files, because we must edit all papers.) The email address and deadline for submissions will be sent to all presenters shortly after the meeting. Please note that submitting your paper for posting on the meeting site in advance of the conference does not constitute submission to BEH On-Line; papers for BEH must be submitted to the editor after the meeting.

Papers published in Business and Economic History On-Line may be revised and submitted to print or refereed on-line journals without seeking specific permission, although the on-line publication in BEH should be acknowledged. Basically, authors may reuse any of their own material in these articles without seeking permission from the BHC. The BHC will retain the right to reprint articles in print or electronic form without seeking permission of authors. All residual rights remain with authors.

The editor reserves the right to reject any paper that does not meet scholarly standards or that does not conform to style guidelines.
